Middle School Principal's Message 2/11/10 |
1st 6 Weeks Letterby Panchi Scown Dear Parents of Alpine Middle School, The first six weeks has come and gone, and I am proud to say that this was a wonderfully successful beginning to the 2009-2010 school year. We have our C-Scope program up and running. It is a wonderful program, but as with any new program, there is always a “hole” to fill. We have almost completed our assessments of each student who will be assessed this first semester. All AMS teachers have now attended Kilgo training and have completed that training. My expectations remain HIGH! If you haven’t had an opportunity to view the commended expectation charts, please do so. The charts are displayed around the school. AMS is pushing for a higher number of students to achieve at the commended status. Commended is achieved when a student makes a scale score of 2400 or higher on the TAKS test. Depending on the test, the number that can be missed varies, but it is usually no more than four missed questions. Students who perform at the commended level demonstrate a greater understanding of the material. The biggest obstacle we have had to overcome at AMS is the FLU. The flu hit Alpine early this year. AMS has made a valiant effort to keep our building as clean and germ free as possible. The custodians have completely disinfected the building and clean on a daily basis to maintain a germ free environment. As always, if I can assist you or your child in any way, please do not hesitate to contact me. Sincerely, Panchi Scown, Principal |
