For many of you, district play gets underway this week - a sort of second opening-day for Texas high school football. Everyone at the Ford Motor Company and our Texas Ford Dealers wish you another great weekend! And thanks again to so many of you who've sent us your nominees each week.

We're proud to announce that six more great student-athletes have been named Built Ford Tough Texas Football Players of the Week for Week 3, as selected by the BFT Advisory Board:  They are:

Class 5A: Jonovan Griffin, QB, McKinney Boyd, whose favorite subject is math, put up great numbers-14 of 20 passing for 304 yards and four TDs; 17 carries for 330 yards and four more TDs in a 78-51 rout of McKinney.  His athletic prowess and a 3.05 GPA have already made this junior a D-I prospect.

Class 4A: Tyler Tannehill, QB, Big Spring, is all the way back from last year's ACL tear.  He enjoyed another huge week, hitting 17 of 27 passes for 342 yards and four scores, raising his two-week total to 11.  The Steers bombed Andrews, 49-7.  A multi-sport star, Tyler is active with the Student Council, FCA, and Church Youth Group and sports a 3.5 GPA.

Class 3A: Darian Godfrey, QB, Gilmer, affectionately called "Stump" by teammates, used his cannon arm to keep the Buckeyes at the top of the rankings.  His 21-of-24 passing (360 and four TDs) helped Gilmer to a 70-24 pasting of 4A Kilgore.  An active member of FCA, he has a solid B average that has attracted D-I attention.

Class 2A: Dominic Scott, QB, Alpine, broke open a close game with 4A Clint, completing 31 of 44 for an astounding 478 yards and six TDs.  That gave him 12 in the last two weeks alone.  Active with elementary school youngsters and at the First Baptist Church, his B+ average has placed him on the Alpine honor roll.

Class 1A: Elijah Hudson, RB /LB, Albany has led the Lions to the top of the rankings with performances like last week's: 21 rushes for 369 yards and five scores in a 62-27 win over Eastland.  A four-sport letterman and a member of the National Honor Society and FCA, Elijah sports a 95.6 grade point average.

Private: Kevin Daniels, QB, Victoria St. Joseph has raised the Flyers stock with wins like last week's over Houston Second Baptist (40-30), thanks to rushing 11 times for 120 yards and two scores and completing six of 12 passes for 120 yards and another TD.  An outstanding baseball player (his college sport?), he proudly owns a 3.0 GPA.
